How to Organize Degree Notes by Semester and Subject
A practical guide to organizing degree notes digitally by university, course, semester, subject, and module.
Good note organization makes studying easier before exams. If your PDFs, screenshots, and class notes are mixed together, revision becomes stressful. A simple folder system can fix most of that.
DegreeLive follows the same idea online: university, course, semester, subject, and module. You can see it from the Calicut University page.
Use a five-level structure
Create folders in this order:
- University
- Course
- Semester
- Subject
- Module
For example, a BBA student may follow Calicut University, then BBA, then Semester 2.
Keep subject folders separate
Do not save Business Economics and Financial Management files in the same folder. Use subject pages as your guide:
- Business Economics
- Financial Management
- Foundation in Business Analytics
- Spreadsheet Modeling for Business
Name files clearly
A clear file name is more useful than a long one. Use names like:
| File type | Example name |
|---|---|
| Module notes | business-economics-module-1.pdf |
| Revision note | financial-management-formulas.pdf |
| Question practice | semester-2-important-questions.pdf |
Plan revision by semester
Open the semester page before each study session. For example, use BBA Semester 1 for first semester revision and BBA Semester 2 for second semester revision.
Then preview the exact module you need, such as Spreadsheet Modeling Module 1.
Organized notes reduce mental load. When files are easy to find, students can spend more energy understanding the subject.
